Strengthening Teachers’ and Elementary School Principals’ Knowledge About Developmentally Appropriate Practice
Expanding early childhood teachers’, elementary school principals’ and other administrators’ skills and knowledge about developmentally appropriate practice, transition to kindergarten and how young children learn. We will work from the book by Erika Christakis, “The Importance of Being Little.” Participants will journal their thoughts and reflections on how this learning will change and improve their practice. Participants will answer reflective questions on how this information impacts their practice and at the end of each chapter they will answer questions. We will meet with principals at least quarterly for a collaborative session and discussion about the transition to kindergarten for preschool children. Principals and participants will work together to develop a common language and understanding of developmentally appropriate practice.
