CoP Name

Rural Connections

This CoP focuses on developing child care center teachers’ and family home providers’ knowledge and skills about how the whole child develops and how language and literacy acquisition are affected by nutrition and movement/physical activity.  We will incorporate strategies from The Program for Infant and Toddler Care (PITC) as well as Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP), Mind in the Making (MITM), and Powerful Interactions

Goals

Learn how children acquire language and literacy through the exploration of how the whole child develops.

Learn how nutrition, exercise/movement affects brain function and development.

Explore pathways to facilitate degree completion.

Requirements

Must be a center or home based childcare provider/educator operating in the rural communities of north Pima County,  including Marana, Picture Rocks, Rillito, Catalina, and Oro valley.  We will be meeting monthly at a day and time to be determined by majority rule.  Attendance will be taken.  Must attend 9 out of the 10 sessions in order to be considered a member of this community of practice and to receive a certificate of completion
